Transcript[]
[Ambience and the noise of a fan. Vince breathes deeply.]
Rake: [whispers] Wake up Vinny … Vinny.
[Vinny SHOOTS AWAKE]
Vince: HOLY SHIT, What the-? I knew I saw you! Last night! Are you- are you with that other thing?
[Silence.]
Vince: Say something, don’t fucking nod at me, are you with him?
Rake: There is an agreement.
Vince: [Nervously chuckling] What kind of fucking agreement? What ARE you?
[Silence.The Rake answers in a whisper that seems to stutter through time, like a second whispering voice underneath its, slightly out of sync.]
Rake: Just… checking. I have to watch over you, Vinny.
Vince: So you’re not going to kill me..?
Rake: I’m not going to kill you.
Vince: [quietly] Why the fuck not?
Rake: I said there is an agreement in place.
Vince: What does that mean?
Rake: Vinny, I am very old; I’ve seen many things and I’ve had my share of fun. And not so much fun. This agreement is very rewarding for me. So I will not even think to disturb it.
[The Rake cuts Vinny with its claws.]
Vince: Ah! Fuck! What was that for?! I thought you weren’t going to hurt me?
Rake: Explaining. Smell. Can’t you smell that?
Vince: I smell fucking blood, you fucking cut me. [The Rake cuts Vince again.]. AH!
Rake: You are not mine to take.
Vince [quietly, whimpering]: What the fuck does that mean..?
Rake: You are tainted. You are marked.
Vince: So, If you’re not gonna kill me, and I’m not yours to take, wh-what? You just came here to tell me that a-and you’re gonna leave? And I’m gonna pretend that I can fucking sleep after this?
Rake: I will check in periodically.
[The Rake disappears into the closet.]
Vince: Wait- wait. FUCK! [whispering] Where’d you go? [Full volume, searching around] Come back, hello?! What the fuck. [He sees the recorder and picks it up.] What the fuck, please be recording, please be recording.
[whispering] Oh thank god, oh yeah... He, uh... [he sobs] oh god... He’s real. [wincing in pain] Ah... He cut me, ah, fuck, pretty bad. I don’t know if we heard everything on this. I’m gonna go back and check in the morning, but... oh fuck, what does that mean?
I’m gonna go sit by the closet. That’s where it came from, and that’s where he went back to.
